While experts warn of a spread of the delta variant, only a few people are currently infected with the coronavirus. According to the RKI, authorities across Germany are counting just over 400 new cases within one day. The seven-day incidence drops slightly to 5.4.
Health authorities in Germany have reported 404 new corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day. This is according to figures from Tuesday morning, which reflect the status of the RKI dashboard as of 4:24 am. That compares with 455 infections a week ago. The RKI gave the seven-day incidence as 5.4 nationwide (previous day: 5.6; previous week: 8.0).
Nationwide, 57 deaths were reported within 24 hours, according to the data. A week ago, there were 77 deaths. The RKI counted 3,727,333 confirmed infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the start of the pandemic, but the actual total is likely to be much higher because many infections go undetected. The RKI reported the number of people who recovered to be about 3,622,600. The number of people who died from or with the involvement of a confirmed infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 90,819.
R-value declines again
According to the RKI, the seven-day R-value was 0.79 on Monday afternoon (previous day: 0.82). That means that 100 infected persons infect arithmetically 79 further humans. The R-value represents in each case the infection occurrence 8 to 16 days ago. If the R-value is below 1 for a longer period of time, the incidence of infection is decreasing; if it is continuously above 1, the number of cases is increasing.
